Hornets: A Type of Wasp with a Sting
Hornets vs. Wasps
Hornets are larger and more aggressive than wasps, but both are types of wasps. Hornets belong to the Vespidae family, which also includes yellow jackets and paper wasps. Wasps, on the other hand, belong to the Apoidea family, which includes bees and ants.
Asian Giant Hornets
Asian giant hornets (Vespa mandarinia) are the largest hornets in the world. They can grow up to 1.5-1.75 inches long and have a much bulkier appearance than other hornets. Asian giant hornets are native to Asia, but they have recently been introduced to other parts of the world, including the United States. These hornets are known for their aggressive behavior and their painful stings.
