Early Life and Career Beginnings

Per Gessle was born on January 12, 1959, in Halmstad, Sweden. He began playing guitar as a teenager and formed his first band, Grape Rock, in 1975. The band later changed its name to Gyllene Tider and released their debut album in 1978.

Gyllene Tider quickly gained popularity in Sweden, and their album "Moderna Tider" (1981) became a critical and commercial success. Gessle's songwriting skills were evident from the start, and he penned some of the band's most iconic hits, including "Sommartider" and "Flickorna på TV2."

Roxette: International Superstardom

In 1986, Gessle teamed up with Marie Fredriksson to form the pop duo Roxette. Their debut album, "Pearls of Passion," was released in 1988 and spawned the hit singles "The Look" and "Listen to Your Heart."

Roxette went on to become one of the most successful Swedish bands of all time, selling over 80 million records worldwide. Their songs, often characterized by Gessle's catchy melodies and Fredriksson's powerful vocals, became global anthems.

Influence and Legacy

Per Gessle is considered one of the most influential songwriters in Swedish pop history. His songs have been covered by numerous artists, including Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, and Rod Stewart.
